Horace Walpole invented the word Serendipity in the 18th Century and it is;
'The faculty of making happy and unexpected discoveries by accident'.
This is the experience we wish to create at Serendipity. We seek out the unusual, the beautiful and all things wonderful. We then assemble our collections so our customers can make their own happy finds.
We started out in a small shop in Leyburn over 20 years ago. Our next step was big and bold when we relocated to 'Berry's', Leyburn's former department store. We then were inspired to try something new. The elegant proportions of the first floor principal room with its imposing bay windows demanded a social function so we opened a tea room which is now a favourite meeting place.
Serendipity has a prime position in Leyburn at the top of the Market Place. We are surrounded by awe inspiring scenery and are on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
The location of our second shop in Saltaire could not be more different, but is equally iconic. Saltaire Village was at the heart of the Industrial Revolution and is now an official World Heritage Site. We are within easy walking distance of the famous Salt's Mill.
Thank you for viewing our website and we hope it has inspired you to visit not only Serendipity but to explore the magnificent Yorkshire scenery surrounding both of our stores.
Hope to see you soon,
Adrian, Cath and all our lovely staff.
